Do you celebrate them?
No, you say.
Well, why not?
After all, it is the very last day you will ever be that age again!
When we are young, we can’t wait for our birthdays to roll around.
But there comes that age, different for each of us,
when we no longer find that annual day so exciting.
Honestly, I’ve never been bothered much about my age.
Except for thirty-seven.
It was kind of tough.
Isn’t that the oddest thing!
I guess it was having to face the fact I was no longer young
and would, in the blink of an eye, be 40.
Thirty-seven came and went,
as did 40 and then 50.
Now, all these years later, I once again find myself
more than a little bothered by this next birthday number.
After Friday, I will never be in my 50’s again.
THE BIG 6-0 REARS ITS UGLY HEAD ON SATURDAY!!!!!!
I realize that Saturday will be another day just like today or tomorrow or Friday,
but there’s something about that number.
I must recognize I am no longer a “spring chicken.”
although my joints have been trying to tell me that for quite a while!
Because I am widowed, I can actually draw Social Security if I so choose.
Now that really makes me feel old!!!!
My friend, Jo, told me that being in your 60’s has its advantages.
She said people will overlook things you say and do because they accredit it to your age!
That’s a relief!!
(I can see my daughter shaking her head now!!!)
All joking aside, I am thankful to be turning 60.
My husband didn’t make it to that age,
as he left for heaven at only 59 years young.
So, if you see me on Friday, January 9th,
be assured that I am celebrating my birthday eve
because it is the very last day I will ever be 59 again.
I have some “all about me” things planned for that day.
And I think that is okay!!!!!!!!!
There’s no telling what this new decade will bring.
I am excited to see where God’s plan leads me.
Maybe 60 really is the new 40!
Only time will tell.
Lots of love, Sharon
