NEVER ONCE

As I sit here writing this,

it is the eve of the anniversary of Les’ home-going.

Tomorrow will be 3 years.

To say they have been easy years would be a lie.

They have been hard.

Very hard.

Extremely hard.

Sometimes excruciatingly hard.

Everyday is a little easier though.

Every “down” time is farther between and shorter lived.

The rhythm of life moves on,

however, I still struggle to find my place.

During his sickness and the days after his death,

the responsibilities I had carried were, out of necessity, picked up by others.

My place was filled.

So I don’t feel really needed anymore.

That only proves to add to the uncertainty of my “place.”

This past weekend, I had the privilege of spending time

with some awesome women at a church retreat.

All 4 of the speakers (from our own church)

were powerful and thought-provoking.

They spoke about the season of life they are now living out

and each one gave me reason to pause.

Hope Schaefer (check out her blog – Hope After Divorce)

shared what she has learned about handling trouble when it comes.

She gave us 3 points:

Don’t hide.  Be purposeful in your friends.

Don’t pretend you’re not angry.  Own it!

and

Don’t doubt God’s love.

Good advice, wouldn’t you say?

Some of you are in the throes of difficulties right now

and if you’re not, you soon will be.

That’s just how life is.

Find Godly friends to reach out to;

friends who will listen and love and pray with you and for you.

Be angry and speak it.

Holding it in only causes it to grow.

When we give that anger to God, He replaces it with His love.

And oh, how He loves us!!!!!

Never doubt His love; a love that willingly gave His own Son to die for us.

One of the songs we sang this weekend was

Never Once by Matt Redmond.

As I sang this song and really listened to the lyrics,

I knew they were absolutely true in my life.

It has been a difficult journey,

but never once have I had to walk it alone.

My loving Heavenly Father has never, ever let go of me!!

People tell us that time heals all wounds.

I disagree.

Jesus is the Healer.

Yes, time does make it easier,

but Jesus makes it possible.

I have no idea how someone goes through

life’s hard times apart from Jesus.

I’m so glad I’ll never have to.

He’s there for you, too, if you’ll reach out to Him.

Never once have I walked alone.

Never once was I left to do it on my own.

God is faithful, so very faithful.

Lots of love, Sharon

NEVER ONCE

by Matt Redmond

Standing on this mountaintop
Looking just how far we’ve come
Knowing that for every step
You were with us

Kneeling on this battle ground
Seeing just how much You’ve done
Knowing every victory
Is Your power in us

Scars and struggles on the way
But with joy our hearts can say
Yes, our hearts can say

Never once did we ever walk alone
Never once did You leave us on our own
You are faithful, God, You are faithful
You are faithful, God, You are faithful

Scars and struggles on the way
But with joy our hearts can say
Never once did we ever walk alone
Carried by Your constant grace
Held within Your perfect peace
Never once, no, we never walk alone

Never once did we ever walk alone
Never once did You leave us on our own
You are faithful, God, You are faithful

Every step we are breathing in Your grace
Evermore we’ll be breathing out Your praise
You are faithful, God, You are faithful
You are faithful, God, You are faithful

  1. Your insight is so true and important, Sharon. God in His sweet kindness has shown me that sometimes He must have us all to Himself to make us available for His purpose. Yet He truly never leaves us and He is faithful.

I pray that you continue to submit to His healing and continue to touch lives for Jesus. How deep the Father’s love for us!
