What Will You Give This Christmas?

I confess.

I rarely listen to any secular music.

So, it is no surprise I didn’t know the song we cooled down to in exercise class.

Turns out, it was “Don’t Stop” by Miley Cyrus.

(Miley Cyrus is a post for another day!!!!)

All I did know was that the lyrics really bothered me.

All through the song, I cringed.

“It’s my body. I can do what I want to.”

That is a lie of the evil one;

a lie he has managed to convince a large majority of us to believe.

Whether you have turned your life over to Jesus or not,

He still paid the price for it.

And it was a high price.

Before I repented and asked Jesus to forgive me of my sins and

be the Lord of my life,

I was a slave to sin.

That slavery was to result in eternal death.

Jesus loves me (and you) so much,

He stepped up and said He would die in my place.

He laid down His own life, shed His own blood for me (and you).

Now, because I have repented and turned my life over to Him,

instead of eternal death, I have eternal life.

No longer a slave to sin, I am now a slave of Christ Jesus!

That’s right.

Jesus now owns me.

He purchased me with own blood.

Do you know what that means?

My life is NOT my own.

Jesus now calls the shots, not me!!!!

Obedience to God’s Word is the evidence of a real faith.

It is NOT my body and I CAN’T do what I want to.

There are so many people who profess to be Christians

yet their lives show no evidence of a real faith.

There is no obedience to God’s Word.

Matthew 7:21 says

“Not everyone who says to Me, “Lord, Lord,” shall enter the kingdom of heaven,

but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.”

What is His will?

He wants to conform us to the image of His Son, Jesus the Christ.

That happens as we are obedient.

“Being found in appearance as a man, He (Jesus) humbled Himself

and became OBEDIENT to the point of death,

even the death of the cross”

Philippians 2:8

Jesus, the God-man, God in skin, walked in obedience to the Father.

Does that mean I always get it right?

Absolutely not!

As Jack Graham said on a recent “Power Point” broadcast,

we do the will of God “not perfectly, but progressively.”

And that is where GRACE steps in.

Grace is for when we fail to walk in obedience.

It is not a license to sin.

The world’s teaching does not line up with the Word of God.

It is vital we are in a deep and strong study of the Word

so we can know TRUTH for ourselves

and not be swayed by the world’s lies.

By now, I am guessing you are confused about the title of this post and it’s contents.

What does any of this have to do with what you will give for Christmas?

Unless Christ had been born, we would not celebrate CHRISTmas.

Yet, in all our busyness, we forget to give a gift to the One whose birthday it is.

What would He like for His birthday?

What would be the perfect gift for the Son of God?

A heart that desires to walk in obedience to His ways.

A heart that is willing to go, do, say, give up, or take on whatever He asks of us.

And the beauty of this is that He doesn’t leave us here to do it on our own.

When we turn our lives over to Him, His Holy Spirit abides in us

and empowers us to follow Him.

No matter what you receive this Christmas, it will never top that!!!!!

Have you given Him your life?

Have you asked Him to be your Lord and your Savior?

Does your life reflect His?

He wants no better gift from you than your whole heart.

Maybe that could be your gift this Christmas.

Lots of love, Sharon

“Love the Lord with ALL your heart, with all your soul, and all your might.”

(Deut. 6:5)
