I have had a busy, very tiring, yet exciting week! Our Bible study lesson on Wednesday was great. We looked at the Sabbath and Passover. Passover is such a beautiful picture of redemption. God redeemed the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt and made them a new people. They were redeemed by the blood of an unblemished, male lamb whose blood was placed on their doorposts so the angel of death could see it and know to pass over that house. The blood was their protection from death. In that same way, Jesus, who is our Passover Lamb shed His own blood for us. When we repent and believe that He is the Christ, the Son of God, trusting and relying on Him fully, we are redeemed by the blood of The Lamb. His blood protects us from death and gives us eternal life in His name. We become new creatures. It is just all so awesome!!! Only Christianity can offer this gift. Jesus is the ONLY way to the Father. Do you know Him? Have you surrendered your life to Him? Have you taken up your cross and are following Him? It is necessary if you are to spend eternity in His presence.
At House Church on Wednesday night, we watched an Andy Stanley DVD where he taught about “The conscienceness of A Nation.” Andy Stanley is Charles Stanley’s son and he, too, is a pastor in Georgia. He talked about what he believes is the underlying question we presently face in America with the upcoming election. He spent much time explaining the foundation on which our country was built; a foundation based on the belief in a creator God in whom we as a nation and as individuals are accountable. We are at a crossroads in these times. God has been removed from so many areas of our lives and many, many Americans no longer believe they are accountable to God. Not that long ago, 1956, our Congress voted almost unanimously to make “In God We Trust” our national motto. In only 50+ years, God is not welcomed in many, many settings in our country. As you think about your future and your children’s future, what do you want to see? Do you want the continue with your freedom to worship as you so desire? Or are you willing to sit back and let many of our freedoms be stripped from us? Think about it very carefully. (We will watch part 2 of the DVD this coming Wednesday.)
Thursday night at our Women of Vision meeting, we were pleased to hear from Scottie Barnes with Forgiven Ministries, Inc. Hers is a prison ministry that shares the love of God and His forgiveness that’s available. They have One Day With God camps where prisoners and their children get to spend a day together finding love and forgiveness and relationship. Many times they haven’t ever even seen each other! The families are also ministered to as the children spend time with their incarcerated parent. Scottie has invited me to join them this coming weekend up in the mountains for a camp. My dad and I are planning to head up that way on Friday. Can’t wait to report to you how God worked among the people. Please pray for me as I am searching for what God would have me to do in helping to further His kingdom while sharing His love with my fellowman.
I told you it was a busy week. Friday night and Saturday I had the privilege to attend a conference in Columbia, SC, to hear Kay Arthur and her son, David, from Precept Ministries. Most of you know I lead Precept Bible studies and have done so for about 20 years. They are both anointed to teach God’s word in such powerful and understanding ways. Kay Arthur loves God and His Word so much and it just pours from her heart. She, too, is burdened for our nation. They taught on not being fearful, being prepared, being informed, and lining up EVERY thing we do with the Word of God.
So many church people don’t see the necessity of every area of their lives reflecting Jesus. Being a Christian isn’t a religion; it is a relationship. It is a personal relationship with the Sovereign Creator God found only through His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus bought us with His own blood. If you have trusted Him as your Savior and Lord, then you belong to Him. You are His “bond-servant.” That means you are to do only the things He asks of you. And He has promised His yoke to be easy! We as believers as to live our lives in complete obedience to Him. We are to line up all our decisions based on His Word. This applies even in elections. As you go to cast your vote this year, you need to carefully check out the candidates to see how their values and platforms line up against the Word of God. The Word of God calls abortion murder. The Word of God does not allow same-sex marriages. God deals with nations that forsake Him. You have a “right” as an American citizen to vote as you choose, but remember you are accountable to God for everything you do, even those for whom you vote. As His “bond-servant”, ask Him for whom you should vote. He knows hearts. We only hear rhetoric and biased reports. He knows truth. We hear pretty, yet distorted words. As believers, will you be comfortable with your vote knowing God is right there in the voting booth with you? If we as believers don’t stand for God’s truth, who do you think will???
May God have mercy on our nation. May His people repent and turn back to Him whole-heartedly. May His kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven.
Lots of love, Sharon
